On this episode of the World’s Best Marketing Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Dan Sanchez. We talked about how Dan ended up in marketing, B2B, cryptocurrency, personal branding, the power of podcasting, Gary Vee, email — and much, much more.
A lot of marketers will probably agree that the best way to build your personal brand is by doing content marketing. For Dan, the easiest way to do content marketing is by doing podcasting. This is because it's simply easier to outline something, record it, and put your thoughts together than it is to write a blog post that can take a lot of time.
For example, if you want to break into a new space, you can start a podcast about the space and interview the hiring manager. Like, let's say you want to work for a FinTech company and you want to become the marketing manager there, one strategy is to start a podcast called The FinTech Marketing Director.
"You can talk about some lessons learned and share it on a podcast much more easily, or you can even interview people you'd like to get to know - like the hiring manager."
And you just start inviting all these marketing directors on your show. You build relationships with them, which is the ultimate goal of a podcast is to build relationships and a network, a real network. You get to know them, they get to know you, and you get to have their thoughts and ideas as your content and you get to share it.
Meanwhile, people are starting to think you're a person in that space and influencer in that space, even though you're really just asking good questions, we call it the Oprah effect. And it starts to accelerate your career. You're becoming known in that space because you're influencing the people in this space and some of them become listeners, but even just the relationships with the guests that you have on the show and up.

This is really putting you on a different trajectory, just from the network alone that you're building, but it's also building a catalog of all the different people you've talked to. Episodes and ideas you've recorded and put out there kind of like how a blog would, but people can consume more content via audio, and it's a lot easier to produce.
So it's a really great way to set up your personal brand for success, whether to go up the ladder or jump to a different company or a different industry, and to build your own personal thought leadership.
